Happy New Year my lovelies! Today is again time for the annual end of year statistics, and let me tell you, it has been a busy reading year. I read more books than I ever have. I’ve discovered many new authors and read some amazing work. Thanks to Bookstagram, I’ve also made lots of new friends who keep me motivated and reading. Gotta admit, it really has been a struggle keeping my attention on the book in hand and not worry about the craziness that is happening around the world. Yearly Stats In 2020 I read a total of 93 books, across 36136 pages. The longest book was Stephen King’s…

Book Review | Playing Nice by JP Delaney
I am notorious for picking my monthly TBR and then chucking it out the window depending on the mood I’m in later on. Playing Nice was definitely not even on my radar at the beginning of the month, but the other day.. I changed my mind. Picking the next book to read is always a struggle, since I have well over 100 unread titles in my to-be-read pile. I am currently still in Estonia, which means that the majority of the books available are on my Kindle. Normally I’d use a TBR Jar but that, too, is in England and unavailable. Therefore I ran a quick poll on my Instagram…

Reading Challenge 2020 | May | Jane Eyre
The reason I picked Jane Eyre for May reading challenge was that it is my mother’s favourite book. Of. All. Time. I simply wanted to know why she loves it so much. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kat|Books Kat Likes| (@bookskatlikes) on Jun 30, 2020 at 6:32am PDT Surprisingly I found the language very strange. Although I absolutely love period dramas and the old-school feel, but reading it is really quite different. Once I got over the first “shock” I enjoyed the book overall. It’s difficult not to like Jane; she’s smart, kind, strong-willed and loud to voice her opinions where appropriate. For me Jane Eyre…

Thursday Quotables | The Joy of Being Sober
Do you remember the time when Thursday Quotables was an actual thing that I posted every week? I don’t blame you. It has been a while, BUT things have changed. And recently I read The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober that is full of quotes I want to share with you all. “Our thinking about drinking, as a society, is wonky. Drinking is not inevitable. Or compulsory. We don’t need a doctor’s note to excuse us from swan-diving into wine. We don’t have to be driving to say ‘no ta’. “ I agree with this so much! Something I noticed more after “going sober for the time being” end of…

Reading Challenge 2020 | April | American Psycho
April saw me reading American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis for satire. It has now been a few months (well nearly 5), since I read it and I am still scarred by it, although the first wave of nausea has well worn off! So American Psycho was a ride. A nice little ride except the bike was on fire and I was on fire and the whole world was on fire.. I’m fine. Really. 🤯 View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kat|Books Kat Likes| (@bookskatlikes) on May 20, 2020 at 1:43am PDT I don’t really care for content warning, generally. Reading Challenge 2020 | March | The Ten Thousand Doors of January
Reading 12 in 12 in 2020 did really not get off to a good start. I did not finish the Ten Thousand Doors of January. But first, isn’t the dust sleeve the most beautiful thing you’ve ever seen? I must admit, this really was a cover purchase through and through! View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kat|Books Kat Likes| (@bookskatlikes) on Mar 31, 2020 at 1:06am PDT I did not continue with this book because A) I was struggling with concentrating on any book B) Although I could see why people like this book, and have rated it high, but where I was in my life…

Book Review | The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober by Catherine Gray
Had you told me in March that I will be reading The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober, or any sort of sobriety related literature for that matter, I would have thought you are out of your mind.
