Hello Tuesday! Today you are especially good because I’m on holiday and have flown out to see my family in Estonia! The weather has been amazing, unusually warm and so sunny! Time to take some time off and get through some good books whilst I’m here! But first, let’s discuss unsolicited book mail today.
Do you like getting unsolicited books in the mail?
By many standards, I’m still very a new book blogger. With a little less than a year’s worth of blogging time under my belt, I’ve still had a few publicists send me books, but all the ones I’ve got are ones that I’ve agreed to read beforehand. Therefore I cannot speak from experience.
I think when sending books to book bloggers/book lovers without prior consent, the publishers run a risk of wasting the ARC/book copy. There’s a very high chance that it will not be read, especially if the sender is not familiar with the taste of the recipient. Surely it doesn’t take a lot of time to send a quick line to the chosen person asking if they’d be happy to read the book first, and it would be polite.
Don’t get me wrong, everyone loves book mail. I know I do, but I wouldn’t want every book under the Sun, especially if it is nothing like what I would enjoy reading. Unfortunately there isn’t unlimited space in our house 🙁
